Thoughts from the outside looking in...
I was in the gym yesterday on lunch and I talked to a lady who I often see at the gym classes. She has a thick accent and of course I love hearing about the history of it. I made a comment about someone she reminded me of and it opened up conversation. She is from Bulgaria (in Europe). Since I have never heard about Bulgaria much and I have been so concerned about our country and the choices my fellow Americans and leaders are making I ask her about the political setup of Bulgaria. She informed me that it used to be a communist country 25-30 years ago and now is a democracy. She said there was government health care in place and now the country is moving back to public healthcare and thriving. I did not lead her as I truly want to understand our situation and hear unbiased opinions on our issues. I simply ask her what she thought of our nation and the choices we are making. She said that she wants to shake people and say "What are you thinking?" That we are slipping into socialism and she can't imagine how the youth of America don't see the damage it will cause she says the "youth say 'why not socialism?'. She said that she does not want to see our county become the way the society was back home...I have to wonder how close socialism and communism are to each other and since our democracy is making choices that lead to socialism then what will we end up with in 30 years? This Bulgaria is evolving into their democracy. It is still changing she said. It is becoming a better place to make money and live. My new friend and her 2 sisters are making a life here in this amazing country...they have history and are very concerned for America. I wish she could educate more of us and I would love to hear more from her. What cradle is rocking our country to sleep? Is it laziness? Ignorance? Passively we wait and what will be the outcome? I want to educate myself. Learn! I don't want to be a citizen that is sleeping until the Chinese knock on my door and put me in a slave camp. I'm not a conspiracy theory person but history often repeats itself. We need to be watchful and aware of each decision and law that is made for us. We need to be aware of the politics of other countries. Teach your children about democracy and instill in them a love for our freedom and what brought us these freedoms. Take them to speak to veterans and to war memorials. Give them the knowledge they need to fight for the good they have. In Huntsville you can meet wounded veterans at the airport and also support them annually at the veterans day parade. If a freed people forget then they can again be enslaved.
